Audio excerpt from The Launch Book
Everybody has a Superpower. Do you know what yours is? And how will the world be different if you know what yours are? And if we help one another discover theirs?
As a thank you for subscribing this early in our journey, I am making today’s special issue (access to audio chapters from The Launch Book) available for ALL subscribers. These are usually reserved for paid subscribers and are published on the 4th week of each month. Today’s issue gives you the audio of the Fundamentals of Launch and the Introduction chapter from The Launch Book: Motivational Stories to Launch Your New Business, Idea, or Next Career. (Click on links to listen).
I wrote The Launch Book, not because I had answers, but I was discovering answers to questions that I had about the mindset, tools and courage it takes to launch something new. The existence of this book is proof of its thesis.
To give you a taste of what you’ll be listening to in these chapters, here are excerpts from those chapters.
The Fundamentals of Launch excerpt:
What is a launch? Whether it’s about starting a new habit or a new business, what is inherent in every launch is change. It’s change from the progression of the current path into a newly imagined one. It’s change from the status quo. That’s why launches can be energetic – and also why they can be so hard to initiate.
There’s the fear of failure. What if you don’t manage to achieve the outcomes you first imagined when the idea for the launch first surfaced? That thought alone can keep you from ever taking the first step. Wouldn’t it be better to work on all of the tactics surrounding the launch? For example, in thinking about a new career, it’s easy to jump into tactics such as the wording of a résumé or, for a new project, to start working out the action plan – simply because those aspects are tangible and feel controllable. While tempting, this would like be putting the cart in front of the horse.
A key mindset is to approach any launch process as a discovery process. The outcome is not always controllable. But you can control the inputs. And what you learn in the process can be the foundation for a future launch. It’s a perspective that redefines success to be multi-factorial and beyond a measurable outcome.
Introduction Chapter
This is my first book. Despite having written dozens of thought pieces that have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Forbes,
The Huffington Post and LinkedIn, getting started on the process of writing a book is new, different and uncomfortable for me. The existence of this book proves the viability of its concepts.
But here’s what I know from my journey, which includes drawing from those who have launched across so many different domains.
It can also be beautiful, meaningful, AWESOME. And it can also be FUN.
Developing the right mindset can provide you with the psychological armour to battle the vacillations, the perspectives and the know- how in refining the ideation so that you can have the best chances to arrive at launch.
I can’t promise that the outcome of reading this book will lead you to a successful launch. But I can promise that the concepts, stories and questions in this book will enable you to be more reflective and position you more ably for a positive experience and outcome. That outcome may actually be the decision not to launch because you are exactly where you should be. This book will help you to reimagine and discover more about yourself. It will also help you to build strong relationships with others who join you on this journey.
And I don’t want to provide you with only my thoughts and experiences. Throughout my career, I’ve had access to stories that have not yet been told and I will be sharing them with you here. Let’s launch this journey together.
